Trinity church represent include the American Revolution war. During this period of time the city of New York became the base for the British military as well as the base for the political operations in the Northern parts of America. After the departure of General George Washington, the church served as the military base mostly for the British military. The church was later destroyed in the year 1776. This was due to the historic fire that is known as the New York City Fire. The fire started in Tavern and it destroyed almost five hundred buildings. One of the defining characteristic that can be seen in the Trinity Church is that it has ogival arches. The church has a flying buttress to resist the lateral forces that may push the wall outwards. The ceiling of the church are stone vaulted. It therefore, means that the roof of the church is heavily loaded and hence the walls may be affected by the force that is created by the heavy weight at the roof. To prevent the walls from been pushed outward by the force that is created by the weighty roof, the Gothic architecture requires that the structure be built with a flying buttress.
