In this essay, I will compare and contrast two paintings that were both painted during the period of impressionism. These works of art are only a decade apart, yet so different. The first is Bal du moulin de la Galette. Bal du moulin de la Galette is a painting by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Bal du Moulin de la Galette is considered one of Impressionism's most celebrated masterpieces. The second painting is Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, which was created by George Seurat. George Seurat was one of the first avant-garde artists. Both paintings are actually images of a Sunday Afternoon. However, both of the artists used completely different paining techniques. The Bal du moulin de la Galette showed a typical scene of late 1800’s working class people, who on a Sunday afternoon, would dress up, dance, drink, and eat galettes.
