Compare And Contrast W. E. B Dubois And Booker T Washington

I am going to be comparing how two great black men in history and their opinions on what black people should do for their rights. Those two men are Booker T. Washington and W.E.B DuBois. Even though DuBois had respect for Washington, he did not feel as if what Washington wanted us to do was helpful to the blacks.

Washington believed in vocational and industrial education for young and unskilled workers. Though they both believed in education, Dubois believed that everyone who was capable should have higher education. I can see what both are saying but I am going to have to go with DuBois on this one. I believe that every who can have an education should indeed have one.

Washington believed in gradual equality for black people, which means he wanted it to come slowly. Dubois wanted it right now and he didn’t want to wait. Washington was one to take it slow and work on getting respect and finance. Dubois says that we are citizens so we should already have them. Washington wanted us to not be concerned about having something they won’t give us. But I’m still going with DuBois we shouldn’t be concerned about right because we should already have them.

Washington believed that we should at least prove smart enough to vote. Dubois believed that all men are equal to the white man and should also be allowed to vote. I can see what Washington is saying because if we are smart, we know who to vote for. I'm choosing Dubois because we should be able to vote no matter what.

Washington said that we should do the jobs that we were doing in the past. DuBois said that we should be able to do any job we want. In this case, I can’t agree with Washington. I'm choosing DuBois again because we should be able to do any job we want, and we can do any job we
