People are more transient than ever. Often a choice needs to be made as to where a person is going to settle down and live. This was the issue with my family a few years back. Should we stay up North or move down to the South? It is important people realize some of the differences between living in the north and living in the south. Both have positives and negatives. People in both the North and south are nice, just in different ways. People in the North say “please” and “thank-you”. They also usually use “excuse me” or “pardon me”. Southerners are also polite, just in their own way. They talk to elders by saying, “Yes Ma’am" or “No, Sir”. They also say “fix’n to” a lot; instead of saying, “I’m going to”, they say “I’m fixin’ to”. Another thing Southerners say is “I am making an 85% in the class” whereas, the Northern would say, “I am getting an 85%”. Some people believe this is a just a stereotype of Southerns, but they really do say “y’all” and “ain’t” all the time. In addition, when being kind and trying to make someone feel better, Southerners will say “bless their heart”. Southerners often misuse grammar by saying “I seen” instead of “I saw”. Southerners also have a slurred way of speaking, a drawl. Northerners often say “Ya” instead of “Yes” and they use “you guys” much too
