For my presentation, I'm going to be comparing alienation in two well-known movies. Alienation is very popular in the movie industry and has grown in popularity as people get more intrigued by life on other planets. The theme is a very vast theme in which directors can have lots of creative space to make their movie unique. The two movies shown here are two of the most popular movies regarding this theme, “Independence Day” and “Superman”. Even though these movies both show themes of alienation, they present them in completely different ways. These two movies have dramatically different perspectives on the theme and they are very striking. The movie “Independence Day” was made to be an action movie where alien space crafts visits on a mission to destroy the earth . The modern military was deployed to try and stop the situation which leads on to them winning the war/invasion. The setting of this movie takes place in the modern era or the 21 century. In this movie alienation was a little bit harder to come by. Movie ‘Superman: man of steel,” the protagonist superman in a character named Clark Kent, one of the last of an extinguished race disguised as an unremarkable human. This movie focuses on alienation in relation with disguise. Since superman has inhuman powers and came from another planet, he is classified as an alien'. The "alienation in this movie is not as apparent or obvious as in "Independence Day" as superman blends in with the surrounding people and looks the same as an average human being.
