George Washington was an historical figure and a legend as the first president of the United States. He had heroic achievements and was looked upon by many for his commitment to America. Americans called him “the Father of our Country,” because of how well and organized of a leader he was. Washington was considered not only the best president of the United States, but the best person America had ever seen. Beowulf and George Washington have characteristics of being a “good king” and were well looked upon as leaders. George Washington was a strong leader whom Americans adored while Beowulf is a brave man that people look up to, because of his great defeats of the monsters. George Washington became an idol to the people and was everywhere in the 1790’s, including “paintings, prints, lockets; on coins, silverware” (Ellis 121). Although Washington was considered a God of the country, he had the characteristics of a “bad king” as well. In 1796, he wrote an article, The Farewell Address and this article gave his resignation of office voluntarily. People were confused, upset, and angry, because he was letting down Americans and the country, “telling them they were now on their own” (Ellis 122). The anger of the people showed characteristics on how Washington acted as a “bad king”. Macbeth relates to Washington in some ways; however, is not similar to Washington whatsoever.
