Have you ever heard of a hometown hero? A savior among men?
This is a paper about people who share the same similarities as an epic hero, and also how they
view religion. The two subjects of this paper will be Beowulf and Odysseus. Both of these men
have a different story of their own and we will be talking about what they have in common.
Beowulf is a story full of heroic traits and attributes such as sacrifice because Beowulf was
willing to sacrifice himself to help save people that weren't even his own. Beowulf showed
characteristics of a true and valiant hero by helping Hrothgar and his people defeat the monster
Grendel. Religion wise Beowulf is seemed to believe in one god, who we assume to be the true

Another famous epic story
was a story written by homer, and takes place after the Trojan war. The hero of this story is
named Odysseus, who was a king who was trying to get back to his kingdom in Ithaca which is
in Greece.
It's been ten years after the Trojan war and Odysseus has yet to return home to his kingdom.
And his son is worried about his father, and there are suitors who want his wife in order to gain
authority and power for themselves, but she remains faithful to the king. Clypso who is a
goddess with a special love interest in Odysseus traps him on her island where he cannot escape.
Odysseus faces a lot of challenges in his travel back home his biggest challenge is probably
facing the cyclops from which this story this creature was made famous all around America, the
cyclops is a giant one eyed monster who tries to kill Odysseus but fails to do so. Athena which is
the Greek goddess of wisdom is one of the supporters of Odysseus and tries to help him, and
eventually Zeus which is basically the god of all gods, helps Odysseus as well and sent Hermes
to help Odysseus.
