Cassie Strickland Anthropology October 15, 2014 Anthropology Report Growing up in school we have learned that we as humans have evolved from primates, but I did not truly understand how complex this evolutionary process really was. I still remember the first picture I saw of how we as humans progressed from these very similar but also different creatures. Through science we have discovered many great things, including: what other creatures closely share our DNA. By comparing these creatures it can shed light on how we are today but also as humanity lived as early hominids after we began to evolve. Scientists have found that we have two similar but also very different primates that we share our DNA with, these species are: Bonobos and Chimpanzees. …show more content…

These guys were once before mistaken as chimpanzees but through many scientific studies they have, in fact, found that bonobos are another species of chimpanzees. What sets bonobos apart from chimpanzees is how their social structure is set up. With bonobos Unlike chimpanzees that are controlled by an alpha male, you find that with bonobos have a hierarchy that is governed by females. What makes this so distinctive and fascinating, is their species alone are a more gentle and caring group. Chimpanzees, on the other hand, are different. This violent behavior they show towards not only other neighboring colonies, but also the males show this aggression towards the females in their family. While trying to see how even though these two creatures are from the same genus how they became socially behavior wise different from one another. Many of the sources I read indicates that one of the reasons chimpanzees tends to be more aggressive to one another is due to lack of food. Since the gorillas find their food on the ground many of the chimpanzees must forage for fruits within the trees. With the lack of available food, this has caused their species to become more
