Blazing heat burns down on this small town. The sheriff, perched up on his porch, while beside him stand three men on a noose. Propped in front of the sheriff is a man carrying a horn. Over the hill rushes a flood of men. They all hurry towards the porch, free the standing men, and hang the sheriff. Robin Hood, from the story Robin Hood and the Three Squires, lead this group of men. He was seen as a hero in his time, but compared to modern heroes such as Bretagne, is Hood even a hero at all? Robin Hood can strongly relate to modern day heroes today because of his worthy actions and risks he carries out.
Robin Hood is extremely loyal to his men. If they are having difficulties, Hood is there to help in any way possible. Even if it means murdering a man, he is willing to do it. The author states, "They hanged the proud sheriff on that/ Released their own three" (Hood 219). Hoods men had committed a crime and were found guilty. The sheriff in the story was carrying out his occupation and was interrupted by a massive group of hurdling men. The group seems to be a herd savages. Humans need support and help. Hood would be considered a hero to the poor in modern day, but not to everyone. He helps those in need. Hood and his group of men do commit crimes, but the middle and lower class would highly enjoy him living in modern time. The narrator quotes, "'Since thou made men sup and dine?/ By truth of my body,' quoth hold Robin Hood" (Hood 217). People in return show love and respect for Hood. He pleases the people, and in return they show thanks for his kind actions. They respect him as a hero and have faith and pride in him. Today, those lower than others would respect him the same way.
