In the United States, Congress is controlled by two houses known as the House of Representatives (lower house) and the Senate (upper house). Since our Congress is divided into two chambers, it means it is bicameral. Both of the houses are drastically different, but they have to work together. For example, the House of Representatives consists of 435 members while the Senate has 100 members. With the congress divided into two chambers, legislation must be processed and approved by both houses before is passed to the president. Right now, the Republicans control both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The number 435 was chosen by the Reapportionment Act of 1929 in order to adjust to population growth within the states.
