The word dystopia means an imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad. The stories The pedestrian and The ones who walk away from the Omelas fulfill the world Dystopia. In The Pedestrian, the story takes place in a time of silence. The main character is isolated from the rest of the world who seems to be more interested in their T. v’s than getting out of their home. In the story, The ones who walk away from Omelas, happiness is given to the utopian city but only under the condition that a child is kept half-starved child in mirresry. These two stories are both similar and different, with one’s theme being “Live your life to the fullness” and the other theme being, “Sometimes bad things happen to good people.” In the story, The Pedestrian, The main character, Mr. Mead is different compared to the rest of the town. Both main characters in the stories are isolated from the rest of the world. The setting takes place in the future for both stories as well. The word Dystopia has a connection with both stories. As far as the theme goes, both stories are not considered happy. The pedestrian and The ones who walk away from the Omelas are different too. In the short story, The pedestrian, Everyone is not living their life to the fullest. They are not happy whether they want to believe it or not. In the other story, this is different, everyone is happy, (at least until they find out about the child).
