Sarah Howard Dr. McCoy HIS 103 10 October 2014 Essay One Essay One There are many similarities and differences between the creation myths from the Babylonian, Hebrew, and Aryan traditions. There are religious similarities and differences between the three cultures. Using the sources, Enuma Elish, Genesis, and Rig Veda, there are ways to see the similarities and cultural differences between the three religions. The purpose of this paper is to understand the three traditions and their time period, the similarities and differences between the three cultures, and comparing and contrasting sources that relate to the early religious traditions of these civilizations. Babylonia occupied the middle and southern part of Mesopotamia, Egypt. Babylonia’s capital city called Babylonia was dated to be around 3800 BCE. Sargon 1 was the first king to rule Babylonia and created and conquered land, power, and influence. The second ruler was Hammurapi who ruled between 1792-1750 BCE. This was considered the first empire where new things were constructed, such as temples, roads, and a canal system. “The Assryan kings destroyed the Babylonian empire, which left a legacy of war and destruction.
