The Parallel Stories Whether God is real or not, there’ve been many stories in ancient times concerning god. Especially stories about floods. For example “The Epic of Gilgamesh”, and “Noah and the Flood”. The Epic of Gilgamesh, is one of the oldest epics ever to be created. The sumerian story was composed before 2000 B.C. The story consist of a powerful leader known as Gilgamesh who has built a great city. As he insults the gods, it resulted in his friend; Enkidu being killed. So he went on a quest to search for Utnapishtim looking for answers to immortality. That is where Utnapishtim tells Gilgamesh about his story concerning the flood. Utnapishtim talks about how we was warned about a flood by Ea; god of wisdom. The gods claimed that mankind was …show more content…

For “Noah and the Flood” they had a very similar plot. The lord saw how mankind was evil, and “how every plan devised by his mind was nothing but evil all the time”(60). Which occurred in Mesopotamia in the distant past. Same as utnapishtim, Noah was warned by the lord, and was told specific instruction to build an ark to survive the flood. While the Epic of Gilgamesh, and Noah and the flood contain many similarities, they also contain many differences As the two separate characters from each story was minding their business they soon get a message sent from the gods about the flood. For Utnapishtim he was warned in a dream by Ea. On the other hand Noah was warned directly from the lord as in the lord was speaking directly to him. As they the two soon received their warning and instructions, they soon started to work. They followed the god’s direction and measurement on how to build the specific craft they needed to survive the flood. “Ea because of his oath warned me in a dream”(29).
