The Crucible and McCarthyism are not all that different. They were both very dangerous and evil events that have happened, which have ruined many people.
In The Crucible, There were many people that were trying to save themselves or another person by using others. John Proctor’s wife Elizabeth was accused and sent off to sit in jail until she hangs or confesses. John did not want his innocent wife to be hung for something she did not do. Using Mary Warren, he went to the court and made her confess that Abigail and the girls were lying about everything they’ve said and done. He even confessed about lusting with Abigail so his wife had a chance to get out. Another example would have to be when Parris wanted his reputation to be squeaky clean. Accused and put to death. The pressure that was put on the people who were suppose to confess, was tremendous. Random citizens were accused and the majority of them were innocent. There was rarely any proof of them actually being communist and/or witches. Joseph McCarthy and Abigail were the main ones who accused people. Everyone believed Joseph and Abigail, they were leaders with many followers. They were both highly liked but their reputations were shortly ruined. Because of these two leaders, there was fear, hatred, and evil spread among their environment. Joseph had a lot of suspicion with the communist and that when around, things got blacklisted. Arthur Miller was one who was blacklisted (Miller,1254). The citizen had eventually cause the downfall of the trials and McCarthyism was occurring, The Crucible was made. In conclusion, McCarthyism and The Crucible were not all that different from each other. They were both leaders who had followers and lead them into the wrong direction.
