What does fear look like in two different characters in different stories? In the stories The Most Dangerous Game written by Richard Connell and The Seventh Man written by Haruki Murakami, the two characters express fear in their stories. In the most dangerous game, the protagonist Riansford expresses fear in many situations, and as for the man in the book The Seventh Man, he was also in fear of the storm. Rainsford became truly fearful of Zaroff hunting him. When Riansford learned what Zaroff was hunting and realized he was next, he became fearful (Connell 28). After talking to Zaroff, he did not know what to think until he was told he was Zaroff's next prey. When Zaroff walked away he was asking himself why he smiled and then proceeded to leave, which made him realize he was getting played with. In these scenarios, Rainford felt fear for the first time. The man in The Seventh Man was scared of the storm after he saw K wasn't there anymore (Murakami 138). When the man ran to safety and tried to scream for K his voice was shunned and had to watch the wave crash onto the shore, Once the first wave crashed down he knew more was coming and had to wait until he could go out to help and or look for K. After the death of K, he left his hometown to go inland because he did not like seeing where K died (Murakami 140). He could not get the picture out of his mind of K’s death and never wanted to see the shore because he was afraid of the dangers of of it. After K's death from the storm, he was afraid of the shore and was afraid of the shore ever since. These scenarios showed that he feared the ocean and shore, which contributes to the thesis of fear. These books and their protagonists both show fear in their
