Herbert Hoover On August 10, 1874 Herbert Hoover was born in Iowa. He was the second child of three. Hoover had a very hard life, at a young age. At six years old his father died, and at nine, his mother died. So, he moved to Oregon, and was raised by his Aunt and Uncle. Herbert Hoover went to school at Stanford University in 1891. He went to school here for a degree in geology. Hoover originally worked as an engineer, but then, he was hired by a mining firm. In 1899 Hoover married his wife Lou Henry. They had two kids, Herbert Hoover Jr. and Allan Hoover. They were both born in London. During World War I, Hoover became the United States Food Administrator. After the war, Hoover founded an organization that fed 17 million people
