Life is an ocean, and people are little boats adrift amongst the waves. I’ve always set goals for efficiency, but most of the time life doesn’t go my way. The things that you do, your character and the things that happen out of your control can drive you away from these goals. Many people choose to “go with the flow” along the currents, but others may choose to sail on their own path. Eventually, everyone will beach on land and people become grounded. Although because of the wind, currents, path changes or simply poor navigational skills you may not end up where you wanted. Floating aimlessly without any idea on what I want to do for a living. I look at the successes those celebrities have in their life and the fantastic job they have. I turn green with envy at their lives, even if their happiness may only last a short time. After reading the book Here’s the Deal; don’t touch me by Josh Young and Howie Mandel, I realized that celebrities like Howie Mandel have gone through many hardships to achieve fame and a happy life. Mandel had gone from a carpenter to a stand-up comedian, an actor and then finally to a game show host. Similar to how I am today, when Mandel was young, he floated aimlessly unsure of what to do for a living. He eventually landed at a job he didn’t particularly enjoy: carpentry. Mandel eventually became a stand-up comedian but after some time he thought his job was “failing”: “You don’t have a show. You want to quit the business. Why not try something new?” (Mandel and Young 202). Life wasn’t going his way and he was struggling to stay afloat mentally, but his wife encouraged him to make do with what he had. Mandel wanted to pilot a show about his life, but the ratings were bad and the show was cancelled. Mandel wanted to quit, much like how I was with my parents pressuring me to become a doctor.
