“Nowadays you can go anywhere in the world in a few hours, and nothing is fabulous any more” . This quote is from a very famous author named Roald Dahl that has made an award winning book called “ The Landlady”. “All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.” This quote is also said by another award winning author and his name is Edgar Allen Poe and has made many books. One of his amazing books is called “The Tell Tale Heart”.
The reason for such a quick change is because of the staggering cost of a heart transplant, which is "209,000 plus $15,000 a year for follow-up treatment" (188). Lopez found these numbers out from Landsberg’s story, and his major question is why this guy gets the "Cadillac of heart transplants" (188). While many Americans would need to take out a loan for this kind of surgery, a prisoner got it for free and got to reap the benefits of an extra life, while "4,119 people" were waiting for this possible second chance at life (188). This quote also addresses the limited availability of organs since there are so many people waiting to receive a new heart. Lopez also brings up the argument of merit and whether it matters.

According to the Teleological argument the universe resembles a machine due to it 's intelligent design. Being that the universe even exists I believe shows the intelligent design. If you look towards the eco-systems they run on checks and balances the same as any software. When you remove a section it tends to collapse or eventually will collapse. In addition, just as a machine the universe changes and will go through phases in design.

Throughout history, we have came across many authors with different writing styles, word choice,or unique ways of interpretations. Edgar Allen Poe is one author who stands out to me the most. He has a unique and dark way of writing his stories and it appeals to the readers emotion and drama. He has a recurring theme of death and lost love, and in “The Tell-Tale Heart” Poe writes about murder, insanity, obsession and guilt. His use of symbolism and point of view is another reason what makes Poe one of the greatest.
In both short stories “ A Simple Heart” by Gustave Flaubert and “Separate Ways” by Higuchi Ichiyō, they are very similar. Both of these stories are touching the lives thru the characters they chose to portray to the readers. All this fits very much into the Realism movement. In “A Simple Heart” Flaubert who was a famous realist of the nineteenth century, he uses the characters of Félicité and the parrot as a symbol of Realism.
Stories from the horror genre leave little information to the imagination. Although, why do people believe this about most stories. Well authors use the horror genre elements to surprise, excite, and give a reader many emotions while reading.
Humans are not perfect beings free from illness and corruption. Things can go wrong and often types people suffer for it. They can go insane. This is further explored in the short story “The Tell-Tale Heart.” written by Edgar Allan Poe and “The Yellow Wallpaper.” written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman they are similar due to the recurring themes in both texts featuring appearance vs. reality, and Madness.
The Style of Poe Analysis In “The Tell-tale Heart” by Edgar Allen Poe, the demented, arrogant and dark tones reflect the man’s guilt and insanity that eventually leds him to admit to the crime he committed. Poe’s diction heightens the arrogant tones which is seen as the man plans the murder and carries it out in a careful, organized way. He goes “boldly” into the chamber, “cunningly” sticks his head in the doorway and feels “the extent of his own power”. Poe’s use of diction shows how cocky the man actually is.
The directive and apathetic personality of the protagonist respectively from “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Yellow Wallpaper” is also exposed through their style of narration. The man from the “Tell-Tale Heart” imposes a one-way dialogue with the reader in which he questions the reader and heavily suggests the answers. When he hears the old man’s heart beating for the first time, he says: “And now have I not told you that what you mistake for madness is but over-acuteness of the senses?“ (70). Through this technique, the narrator attempts to convince the reader of his sanity and the grandeur of his accomplishments, preventing the reader from thinking and developing his own arguments: he is forced to agree with the narrator’s point of view.
Edgar Allan Poe used the literary device of setting to give a dark, threatening tone in the story by using three main elements. Time of day, mood and atmosphere, and population. All to which are very effective towards the story. Time of day affects most of the story of Tell-Tale Heart, through the type of period of time the short story is based on. If it’s based on in the day people expect things that aren’t dark, but if it’s during the night you will be expecting something dark and ominous.
Rationale: For this task, I created a diary because I think that this style of writing would be an extremely effective way to show another major character’s emotions and ideas, as it can be written from a first person perspective, giving a huge amount of insight. I based my task on a short story by Edgar Allen Poe, titled “The Tell-Tale Heart.” I chose this piece as it gives the opportunity to be very creative in my writing, but also introduces various constraints, such as writing in a similar style to Poe, and trying to avoid any plot holes. This task specifically relates to part 4 of the language and literature course, being; literature, as the stimulus text is a piece of literature, as is my piece of writing.
“Insanity: n. mental illness of such a severe nature that a person cannot distinguish fantasy from reality, cannot conduct her/his affairs due to psychosis, or is subject to uncontrollable impulsive behavior” (Hill). This definition describes the narrator, a sweet yet deadly man, of “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allen Poe seamlessly. (Appositive) A few prominent characteristics demonstrate the narrator’s insanity, and those include his motives, his actions, and his thoughts.
