Comparing Hush And Enkidu In The Epic Of Gilgamesh

In the book Gilgamesh the characters Gilgamesh and Enkidu go through a lot of physical and emotional changes. Has this friendship changed them for the better or for the worse? What were the big emotional and physical turning point for both characters? Enkidu was made as Gilgamesh’s “equal”. He was created by the goddess Aruru “the goddess of creation”. It was said that she “dipped her hands into the water and pinched off some clay” (13) and from that clay Enkidu was born. He was said to have “virtue in him of the god of war… his body was rough, he had long hair like a woman’s; it waved like the hair of Nisaba… his body was covered in matted hair like Samuqan’s.” (13). One interesting thing said after the description of Enkidu was; “He was innocent of mankind” (13). Is the author saying that mankind is bad; or is the author trying to say that he has just not yet been exposed to the advances of mankind. As the story says Enkidu spends most of his time wandering the forest; “he ate grass upon the hills with the gazelle and lurked with wild beasts.” (14). He was then seen one day by a trapper and he described him as “the strongest in the world, he is like an immortal from heaven” (14). He says that he is going to take it back to his town and use it there. I think that he is only going to share it with the old men because if he gives it to him and it works he is going to look like a hero, but if he gives it to him and it doesn’t work then he is just saving himself. So once again Gilgamesh goes back to only thinking and caring about himself. When he gets the flower, he is unsure of what to do with it whether he should eat it then or take it back. As he takes it back a snake takes it and eats it, then becomes young
