The reading in the second unit was a learning experience. In the reading LeGrand Richards, Lisa Nielsons, and Thomas Plummer showed their approaches of critical thinking. Each writer displayed the different and unique way to expand the thinking level of the reader. They expressed how to analyze and evaluate topics in order to create better judgment.
LeGrand Richards address giving at a BYU devotional expressed desires and regrets towards his BYU education. Richards was a fountain of knowledge as he revealed three beliefs of a proper BYU education. He focuses mainly on critically evaluating our education and the time as a BYU student. He teaches his audience of the current student to make the most of their opportunity. Their education should not be seen as a game and needs to be taken seriously. Richards believed that education should be an eternal goal. Our knowledge will better prepare us to accomplish our specific missions as disciples of Christ. LeGrand Richards also taught, that our knowledge is for the world. He wants his audience to “Enter to learn and go forth to serve.” Richards speech invites the listener or reader to ponder the importance of their education.
