Ancient Egypt and Ancient China both had amazing accomplishments in science and medicine in their times. Both societies explored a range of similar aspects of healing which influenced the medicine that we use today. Their early ways of medicine created potential for growth throughout years and years of further discovery.
Early Egyptian medicine was very centered around prayers and spiritual concepts and beliefs. Medicine was such a big aspect in their lives because people in that culture feared disease. A belief was held that an angry god or spirit was the main cause of illnesses and for that reason, all Egyptian doctors were also part Shaman. The doctors performed rituals and prayer in an effort to heal the sick patients. (source: slide 9)

Doctors were able to tell which nerves affected the different areas in the body through the deep and detailed studies of the human body. Through the method of acupuncture, balance was thought to be restored and pain was thought to be relieved with the needles (slide2). The earliest needles used in practicing acupuncture were made of stone or pottery. (slide 3).
Other big aspects of Chinese medicine were herbal healing and some surgical operations. Herbs were used very often to treat common conditions like asthma and goiter. (slide 3). Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) was created by People’s Republic of China and unified medical treatments across China to organize and extend development of medicine. (slide 16)
Chinese medicine also was advanced for it’s time because of their understanding of the body and also how they had stable treatments for many types of diseases. Ancient China contributed a lot of useful techniques from their times, to our modern medicine.
