Many people have learned about the Holocaust throughout the years, but learning about it from a primary source is a whole different experience. A scary journey that turned out to be the Holocaust has been told by two individuals that survived. These two stories tell the reader what life was like and what they went through. Even though the conditions were terrible, both Eli and Lina were able to survive and break away through fear, horrendous experiences, and hope that lead them to surviving and leaving people they cared about behind. Lina and Jonas are a brother and sister that get experience this awful disaster together along with their mother. Their father was taken separately. Although they are heartbroken, all four of them know that no matter what happens, they will love each other unconditionally. The risks that the family takes for themselves and others are unbelievable. Love that was shown for each other is huge along with the people they just met on the cattle car. There were many difficult paths throughout the journey but that did not stop no one. Even though they knew the danger, that did not stop none of them. They were bound to find their father and any message as of what was going on. Little plans and secrets brought Lina and Jonas back to Siberia leaving both their mother and father behind. In Night, Eli and his father are separated from his mother and sister and in Between Shades of Gray, Lina, Jonas, and their mother are separated from their father. Throughout Lina’s journey, they find some secrets and dig around for what all of it was about. In Eli and his father’s journey, they are told they are being sent to a concentration camp by others and how dangerous it was. When reading Lina’s story, they try to figure out secrets and refuse to just do the dirty work without a reasoning. They tend to assume what the reasoning is and when they have something in mind, they will figure out whether or not they are right. Eli and his father just go with the flow and get all their information from others who have been there awhile. Of course they want to escape and end the disaster, but they instead let it run its course and
