Throughout both O’ Brother Where Art Thou and Homer’s Odyssey, the protagonists had many similar characteristics and story elements. The characters, Odysseus and Everett, are more similar through elements such as good looks, strength, and leadership skills. These characteristics can be found throughout both the film and epic through words and actions of the character. O’ Brother Where Art Thou and Homer’s Odyssey are more similar through many characteristics; however, their charms stood out the most. Due to the fact that O’ Brother Where Art Thou was based off of Homer’s Odyssey, there are many similar characteristics. One of the similar characteristics is their charms. In Homer’s Odyssey, Odysseus is known for being handsome. For instance, in Book 6, Nausicaa could not help falling in love with Odysseus. This shows that Odysseus is good looking and a lady’s man. In Book 21 from Homer’s Odyssey, Odysseus shoots an arrow through a line of twelve axes. This clearly shows that Odysseus has overpowered the suitors with his arrow. Also in Book 18, Odysseus beats Irus with just one punch. Odysseus proves that he has strength even though he was in a brittle form. In the same token, in O’ Brother Where Art Thou, Everett develops quick plans to help him and his men to escape the cops. Everett is skilled because he thought of plans and put them into action with a short amount of time. Also, in the beginning of the film, Everett runs after and jumps on a moving train. Everett is clearly strong since he could chase and catch a moving train.
