Comparing Odysseus And The Odyssey

The odyssey could be described as the book of intelligence and wisdom as opposed to other epics by the same writer such as The Iliad. The story tells of a man after ten years of the Trojan War. Ten years have passed since Troy fell. However, Odysseus still not was able to return to his Kingdom of Ithaca, in Greece because he is kept captive by a powerful witch, while back in his homeland, all the men are courting his wife, Penelope, and trying to convince her that the Greek hero had died. Her only companion is Telemachus her son and she wishes that he grows up into a man to take care of her. In this essay, I will explain how important the fact that Odysseus uses better his intelligence over power is. Also, I will discuss the importance of how the Odyssey is characterized by the humanization of gods where each God poses different feelings for the mortals. In this cave, they found huge jugs of milk and other signs that it was inhabited. There they find Polyphemus the Cyclops a cruel and ugly monster, where they get trapped and most of Odysseus’ men die eaten by Polyphemus. Odysseus is smart enough to prevent Polyphemus from eating him, Odysseus gets Polyphemus drunk and then blinds him. He also makes him open the mouth of the cave to escape. In other words, he uses Polyphemus' strength against himself to his advantage, he is also able to overcome Circe, the witch that keeps him trapped, with the use of magic. So, when Circe turned his men into animals by making them drink wine, he was able to take her by surprise and make her restore his men.
