When we look at creation myths throughout history and across religions we can see many similarities drawn but also many differences. Close ties can be seen between Ovid’s Metamorphoses and Genesis in the Bible as well differences between the latter and the Aztec story of creation. These myths can be contrasted on their themes and moral’s demonstrated, the divine intervention that takes place, and type of creation myth it is. When looking at the myths through those aspects we can see key resemblances between the myths such as the evolution of the world and its people and this shed’s light onto the civilisation of origin. The humans, unlike in the metamorphoses, do not interact with their gods and have little to do with them. This however means that the gods in Aztec mythology are better able to manage their creation and throughout Aztec history we see a civilisation that is very devout to their gods. In the Aztec creation story we see the gods giving blood to the sun in order to give it energy and set the world in motion. This acted heavily influenced the civilisation with its people directly copying the offering of blood to its gods. Through human sacrifice and bloodletting the Aztecs believed that they would appease the gods and keep the sun alive by feeding it blood. There devotion can be easily seen through the amount of sacrifices that took place ranging from 20 000 to anywhere in the 100 000. When special ceremony took place over a course of 4 days over 10 000 human sacrifices could occur.
