The old abandoned church on Jay Mountain recently caught fire while 5 children were inside. Two boys bystanding had noticed that the church had caught fire and proceeded inside to save the kids. It was said that the two adults were watching children that were on a school picnic. Some of the children later went to play inside of the old abandoned church. From evidence found from the fire, a lit cigarette could’ve been the cause. Curtis and Cade were coming back from a local Dairy Queen and noticed that the church was on fire. They overheard from one of the school instructors about the children inside and said that they had to save them. “I’ll get them, don’t worry!” coming from Ponyboy Curtis just as he was about to enter the church. Where the two boys were declared heroes. They both deserve this title because they are originally a part of a local hoodlum gang called the Greasers, who live on the north side of Tulsa, Oklahoma. They are well known for causing trouble and getting into fights or “rumbles”, so a local bystander wouldn’t usually expect this kind of boy to do something like this.
