The two stories I am comparing is Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice to Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter. Pride and Prejudice is the story of Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy set during the late 1700’s; early 1800’s. The beginning of the story is basically how they met, which was rocky to say the least. Elizabeth thought that Darcy (which is what he was called) was too proud to enjoy being around, which made her, by definition, prejudice. Towards the middle of the story you find out about Mr. Darcy’s past and what made him so closed off to new people, you also learn about Elizabeth’s sisters’ and their problems. Towards the end of the story, you learn how Mr. Darcy helped Elizabeth’s sister get out of a messy situation, which then leads Elizabeth to learn that Mr. Darcy isn’t as proud as she thought he was. And in the end, they live happily ever after. …show more content…

During those times, which was around the 1700’s, adulterous actions are illegal and people who were caught to be adulterous were punished by being shunned and mutilated, in this story with the letter a branded on you. Towards the middle of the story, you find out that the husband she cheated on was angry and was punishing the man she had a daughter with. Towards the end of the story, Pearl has married a man in Europe and has a family of her own. Hester has passed away and was buried next to her
