n Hamlet, almost every character has something in common with one another. Like Old King Hamlet and Polonius, they were both killed by a person from royalty. But many of the characters have differences.There are very many interesting characters in the Shakespearean tragedy Hamlet. Two of them which share some similarities are Prince Hamlet and Laertes. Prince Hamlet has shown many different character traits it's almost like he doesn't know what to think. In the beginning Prince Hamlet is angry at both his mother and Claudius. “I may be your nephew but I am hardly your son”. These are all characteristics of Hamlet.Even though Laertes does not show many character traits he has some that are similar to Hamlet. The one he does share with Hamlet though is that he wants revenge for the murder of his father. “If one drop of my blood stay calm it would betray my father” (Act 4, Scene 5) .Laertes thought that King Claudius had killed his father so he was saying that if he was to stay calm and not exact revenge for the murder he would ultimately betray Polonius. Laertes showed some of that rare sibling love for his sister Ophelia. “Now pile the Earth onto the living and the dead alike, till you’ve made a mountain higher than Mount Olympus” (Act 5,Scene 1). That shows that Laertes loved his sister dearly but this also shows that he is a little scared of being the last one in his family. Laertes also showed some traits of being arrogant in the ending. “Why as a bird caught in my own trap I am justly killed by my own teachery” (Act 5, Scene 2). Laertes was hit by Hamlet with the poison tipped sword so he died by his own wrongdoing.Hamlet and Laertes have some similarities and some differences.
