When you look into someone's soul, you see the real them, you understand them. The theme of fiction is exactly that, the soul of the story. There is many themes to Ransom of Red Chief and Home Alone but one in particular stood out to me, family. Families always have pros and cons but when it comes to love family never lets you down. In the story Ransom of Red Chief it shows you what family love really means, it states, “ You bring Johnny home and pay me two hundred and fifty dollars in cash. I will then agree to take him off your hands”(O Henry 75) This illustrates that even though Johnny is very imp and rowdy, his dad still wants him to come home so he can see him. It takes a lot of love to want Johnny (Red Chief) home because he is a lot …show more content…

One of the signs that is was made more modern is the technology Kevin uses to drive away the criminals. In the movie Kevin had something hot that he hangs on the doorknob so when they touch it they get burned. Also he uses the tv to scare them because it is a scene with gunshots(Home Alone). This explains that Kevin used different machines to scare off the culprits. These machines are more modernized than what was in Ransom of Red Chief. In Ransom of Red Chief it says, “The boy hit Bill square in the eye with a piece of Brick”(O’Henry 62). This shows that Red Chief didn’t have anything fancy to get away from the delinquents so he just had to throw something at Bill. Another reason Home Alone is more modernized is Kevin’s mom had to fly and drive all the way from Paris to come home to him(Home Alone). This shows that Kevin’s mom had an efficient way of getting home instead of walking like in Ransom of Red Chief. According to the text Ransom of Red Chief it says, “‘In ten minutes I shall cross the central, southern, and middle western states and be heading for Canada.’ It was dark, and Bill was fat, and I’m a good runner. But he was a good mile and a half out of Summit before I could catch up with him.” This shows that they didn’t ride in a car, they just had to walk and run. The next sign is where the action of the criminals took place. In Home Alone the the criminals broke into a big house and that is where Kevin tortured them. This shows that the house was a newer house and that the action happened there instead of somewhere less modernized like the woods or a cave. In Ransom of Red Chief it states, “About two miles from Summit was a little mountain covered with a thick growth of cedars. At the back of the mountain near the top was a cave”(O’Henry). This shows that Ransom of Red Chief had a less modernized setting. It took place in the cave where Home Alone took place in a
