“Tell-Tale Heart” and “ Vincent” Paragraph Response

Out of the countless movies and films in the world, two of the most remarkable and well executed short horror films, are “Tell-Tale Heart,” and “Vincent.” Although the films are directed by different directors who are both insanely talented with different mindsets, there are definitely aspects of “Tell-Tale Heart” that are reflected in the short film “Vincent.” To start off, the protagonist Vincent of the short film “ Vincent,” is depicted to be very out of the ordinary, since his thoughts are often peculiar and his actions bizarre. For instance, he experiments on his dog Abercrombie in hopes that he will turn into a zombie dog that seeks the blood of his victims and he often dreams of dipping his aunt into wax for his wax museum. Similarly, the protagonist from “Tell-Tale Heart,” is also presumed to be demented and a madman since he masterminded a plan to kill an old man just because his eye disturbed him. Next, the conflict of “Tell-Tale Heart” is also reflected in “Vincent,” because in both films, the characters are in a predicament with themselves, particularly with the way they see themselves as opposed to how society perceives them. The murderer from “Tell-Tale Heart” sees himself as sane while society perceives him as a madman. Similarly, Vincent also reflects this image of insanity and madness that the murderer shows since he doesn’t fit into the stereotypical description of a seven year old, which by society’s standards, is regarded as abnormal. To continue, the aesthetics of both the films display a compelling contrast between dark and light and emphasis the use of shadows, which are both themes that you would commonly see in horror films that are done to establish a sense of fear in the audience.
