The song that I chose to do this paper on is called “Somebody’s Watching Me” by Rockwell and Michael Jackson sung backup. I chose this song because it is one of my favorite Halloween time songs, and I was extremely excited to see the song on the list of Top 100 One Hit Wonders. I listen to this song almost constantly during October, and several times throughout the year. I enjoy listening to this song because it has a very catchy beat and it more or less, sums up anxiety so I am able to relate to the words and feelings behind it. The genre of this song is Electronic, Funk / Soul, I think that it fits this genre because there is a lot of electronic music in the song, You could hear the keyboard in the song and the vocals sounded weird. Many people have said that if it weren’t for Michael Jackson, the song would not be a hit and no one would know who Rockwell is. In the Rolling Stones website, there was an interview with Rockwell about his song and name, "I didn’t want anybody to know or people to take the credit away from me and say, 'If it wasn't because of Berry Gordy or Michael Jackson, you'd be nothing.' I wanted people to think I was from some other country but I soon let that go because I didn’t want to be untruthful." Rockwell, now 50 years old; was born Kennedy William Gordy, was signed to the Motown label and had the monstrous hit “Somebody’s Watching Me” in 1984.
