When you read a book then you read another one that is completely different, sometimes you think that those two books are nothing alike. Well I thought the same thing about The Call of the Wild and Of Mice and Men. There were no parallels with these books as far as I could see. Then my teacher told us about the American Dream and I realized that Buck, George, and Lennie had a dream. That’s one of the greatest things about life: trying to achieve your own personal goal or dream--but there is also a good chance that you won’t achieve your dream. Unfortunately many people lose hope because of difficulties in life. The same goes for Buck, George, and Lennie. In the final chapter when George and Candy are about to send off some of the money for the little country place, they were so close to having their dreams come true. Then one day when Lennie was playing with a puppy then the puppy bite Lennie, in panic he hit it. Lennie had killed the puppy that he loved, then Curley’s wife came in and started to talk to Lennie about her life. Lennie told her that he loved to pet soft and smooth, so Curley’s wife let Lennie feel her hair then Lennie wouldn’t let go. Curley’s wife had no choice but to start screaming which scared Lennie so he covered her mouth then he thrashed her around finally breaking her neck by accident. George told him that if he got in trouble go to the river up the road and hide in the brush so he did, when George and the men found the body they went searching for him. George knew where he was, he finally found him hiding in the brush where he told him. Lennie asked George to tell him “’Bout the others guys an’ about us.” As George told Lennie about the way their life was going to be he shot Lennie in the back of the head. All he wanted was to be free from men and their cruelty. He had a hard life full of trial and tribulation, so he deserved a better life. In Of Mice and Men George’s expectations of a new life was nothing to be ashamed of. He wanted to get Lennie out of the world and have his own play that he could call home. George also wanted to be his own boss and make Lennie feel safe which is one of the greatest things you can give any person. Especially when your dealing with a man who has mental problems that doesn’t know who to take care of
