The way or countries function today comes from how people ruled years ago. Two famous rulers in prior history were Suleiman the Magnificent and Ivan the Terrible. Both rulers were autocrats because they had absolute power in which they had complete obedience from tyrants. Suleiman was an autocrat in the Ottoman empire during its golden age and Ivan was an autocratic rulers for the Russian empire. Both Suleiman the Magnificent and Ivan the Terrible were autocrats who had similarities in how they ruled causing a similar outcome for both empires. He ruled by absolute power, but governed with a council, he placed trust in his consultants, and was a role model to his his janissaries. He modernized the army and conquered many new lands that extended eastward in the Middle east into Kurdistan and Georgia in the Caucasus Mountain region. Suleiman had also strengthened the government and ruled diverse grouped of many religions in which he organized them into millets: religious communities. He proposed laws that did not anger other religions but also glorified the Muslim gods. He also created the human tax in which the youngest son from each conquered Christian family was given to the Ottomans for government service to be janizaries, poets, grand viziers, and even government officials. He granted the conquered slaves freedom and made laws that neither fended nor put a burden on the slaves. He had slave friends, and even gave slaves political power; Suleiman married a once slave. Suleiman had more troubles with his family than he had on the battle field. His relationship with his family was the cause for the decline of the Ottoman empire. He had seven kids in total ( five sons, two daughters) from two different women. The favorite son, Prince Mustafa, who was best suited to be the the heir was killed by Suleiman as a result of rumors from his wife. His
