The 1930s to the 1980s is referred to as the Reform Era of policing. Why? -The time period ranging from the 1930s to 1980s was referred to as the Reform Era of policing due to the drastic transition present in this period from political policing to a truer form of crime fighting policing. What reforms were made? -The reforms that took place in this era were largely due to August Vollmer, a town marshall who changed the operations of policing. Among such changes were his decision to increase the employment of deputies to form varying patrol shifts. With such also came his decision to make his men patrol on bicycles and later, cars that increased officers’ response time. Other drastic changes included his implementation of red street lights to
