Author Elizabeth Hinton makes a major point in chapter 4. She makes a point that Nixon and Johnson’s presidency initially began the process of imprisoning people of color. In discussing both Nixon and Johnson’s policies and describing how there programs functioned in efforts to improve the violence that occurred in urban communities, it was emphasized that Black low-income communities became a target. The shift between Nixon and Johnson altered the great society and the new frontier by expanding it. Social programs and reforms that were created, influencing the way policing is structured.

This quote is From the book 1984 by George Orwell and it talking about how dystopian society is kept together and why they citizens don’t rebel. When it comes to the topic of police reform, many agree that our country is long overdue for it, however the questions is how exactly do we, as a nation, go about changing one of the most rigid power structures that exist in the country. While some believe that reform must come from within the individually flawed police departments, others argue that the entire criminal justice system needs an overhaul. An analysis of Ta-Nehisi Coates essay “The Myth of Police Reform” reveals that the complex issues of police shootings of minors (especially African Americans) and how difficult it may be to change these problems. In “The Myth of Police Reform” the author exemplifies the use of logos, ethos and pathos therefore making the argument effective.
In 2000 The Criminal Justice and Courts Services Act was formed. The new legislation introduced the framework for Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) which led to the National Probation Service and the Police working in partnership. The HM Prison Service as well as the police and probation, became responsible for managing the risks of violent, dangerous and sexual offenders. The arrangements for reducing risks, involved sharing offender information and restrictions to reduce harm. Other agencies have a duty to co-operate with the ‘Responsible Authorities’, and be involved in the monitoring process, these include; social care, housing, health and education services.
How did the Boston Police Strike impact police culture? Well just about when the strike sprang up in 1919, there was what was called the professionalization movement. What this movement did was it wanted to recreate and define specific ideas that needed to be addressed. The ideas that needed to be addressed were a part of what was the reform agenda. The reform agenda has six key points.
Community values are an important factor as they affect styles of policing. Every community has different values which alter the way police approach preventing and addressing crime. Some neighborhoods might not want police presence as they feel as if their neighborhood might seem as if its high in criminal activity. Other communities might feel safe seeing patrol vehicles passing through routinely. There is also neighborhoods that might need more aggressive order maintenance as they have higher crime rates.
The overly restrictive prohibition act was designed to put a stop to the rising crime rates, presumably caused by extreme levels of alcohol consumption among U.S. citizens. Ironically, this illegalization of alcohol actually gave birth to the rise of organized crime throughout America. The 1920s are largely remembered as the golden age of America, a time in which no one was poor and everything was peaceful. However, this was not necessarily the case. Crime had always been a basic back and forth between the police and criminals.
Throughout the Roaring 20s many criminal activities had taken place in the United States, such as: World Series Fixing, bootlegging and speakeasies, police complicity in crime, and the Teapot Scandal. The roaring 20s was an era where both employment rate and the amount of leisure time increased. As a family’s income grew, more time was spent for leisure activities such as sports, music, and literature. However, the sport baseball had become such a disappointment for both the baseball players and the public. In the beginning of the 1920s World Fixing took place.
Policing has been around a long time, ever since the 19th century to be more specific. In that span of time between the 19th century and today, policing has gone through many changes, to lead us to the state of policing we are in today, which is now a complete 180 from how it used to be. Way back when the first settlers came to America, communities actually policed themselves. They believed that this was the most effective way to uphold the law, or whatever they called it back then. They had many ways to keep people in line such as public disapproval, shunning, and even public humiliation.

In general, a police officer did not earn too much money for salary, they got it from the extortion, conning and some numerous other illegal practices. Persistently, the police enforcement were extremely ruthless, and they also took the law in their own hands. For instance, they beating and punished people before arrested them.
The First World War had ended in the 1920’s, but a new war was beginning on the American streets. This was known as the gang war. People were committing organized crime and there were people who were known as professional criminals. Organized crime was becoming a very big thing in Cleveland. In the 1920’s, prohibition was also going on .

The 1920’s, or “The Roaring 20’s”, was a decade that witnessed exciting social changes. It was a time of prosperity and dissipation, bootleggers and jazz dancers, and most importantly, it was a decade of The Prohibition Era. The Prohibition Era is basically an era which banned the manufacture, transportation, import and export, and the sale of alcoholic beverages. It was meant to reduce crime, corruption, and social problems and increase the overall hygiene of America. However, this social and political experiment failed.
1980s Music The 1980s was a decade where many things changed drastically. The music industry in the 1980s experienced major changes, mostly due to the political and economic changes, and new trends and inventions. In the 1980s, America changed both economically, and politically.
