I think that the story was very interesting because it is different than what I normally read or watch. Normally I would read a book about sports or something that interests me. This book made me wanna go out of my comfort zone and read something that I normally wouldn’t read because I found out that I like these types of books. There are a couple similarities between the movie and the book. One of them is that Cyloga sent his son to the whites.
Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun and Frederick Douglass' Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass both use dramatic imagery and powerful stories to exemplify their idea of the "American Dream." However, their ideas of what makes an individual happy, differ. Walter's dream is to be successfull, after numerous events lead him to this conclusion. In contrast, Douglass, who is a slave, concludes that education and freedom are key.

What is the American Dream? The American Dream means something different to different people, but either way you have to make have decisions that could change the way you go about reaching your American Dream. In the books based on true events, October Sky by Homer Hickam and The Pact by Dr. Sampson Davis, George Jenkins and Rameck Hunt, represent what it is to make decisions to reach your dream. The books start with what started there interest in being a doctor or building a rocket. To make those things happen all of the characters had to make hard decisions to get to the place they are or were today.
In A Raisin in the Sun, a play written by Lorraine Hansberry, the audience was able to obtain a sense of the struggle for the American dream. We are introduced to the Youngerś a black family living in the Southside of Chicago around the 1950’s. Each member of this family has their own meaning to what is the American dream. A Raisin in the Sun teaches us that even though life might be full of conflicts, it is important to not give up on our dreams.
My definition of the American Dream is someone who starts from nothing and makes their way through life in a happy and healthy way. Not everyone is capable of reaching the American dream. In Of Mice and Men the American dream was not reached by Lennie and George. In A Raisin in the Sun, they too did not reach the American dream. The American dream is a difficult thing to accomplish even though many live their lives trying got achieve this dream.
The view of the American Dream is different for everyone. The Epic Journey, by James Truslow Adams, views the American Dream as a dream of attaining one’s fullest stature regardless of one’s social status. Similarly, in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s book, The Great Gatsby, Gatsby’s American Dream relates to Adam’s dream but limited to materialistic wealth- a dream that seeks for motor cars, higher wages, and to impress the people of high status. Both Adams and Gatsby believe that everyone has an equal chance of achieving their dream. Adams says “The dream is that dream of land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement”.
The American Dream: A Raisin in the Sun The American Dream is defined as the ideal that every U.S. citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination and initiative. However, in 1950s to the 1960s when the play A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry was written the American Dream was defined slightly different. Post World War II the idea of the American Dream was owning a home -in a decent neighborhood, starting your own business- becoming an entrepreneur, a good paying job- with longevity, and family planning-
Jennifer L. Hochschild describes the American dream as “the soul of the nation.” She clearly illustrates the importance of the dream to American culture. So, what is the American dream according to Hochschild? She was referring to John Locke and his fantasy, then said “But the sentence evokes the unsullied newness, infinite possibility, limitless resources that are commonly understood to be the essences of the “American dream.” She also pointed out the flaws in the American dream and how at times the pursuit of it can lead to counterproductive outcomes not just for the individual but society as a whole.
American Dream James Truslow Adams, in his book which was written in 1931 and called “ The Epic of America” wrote about American dream, that American dream is about being richer and living in better life. Also that American dream is more materialistic, that people work a lot of hours to gain things which they want to have. Such as luxury cars, big houses. They want to be wealthy, rich and have all expensive things and live in a world of money and wealth.
What is the American dream? America always had that impact in other countries, as the land of dreams, opportunity, freedom of speech, and the list goes on and on. As for Americans, they are raised in a society to where they are expected to make lots money and to have a healthy family. After all in our society success is largely based off positions of power and financial stability. For example, in The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, there were multiple interpretations of the ideal American dream in the 1920s. In the 1920s, due to the growth of materialism, people advertised and fancied the power of money to fulfilling their dreams.

People make America seem like it's full of freedom, equality, and it's the home of the self-made man where the open road calls your name when you want a change of scenery. The American dream is a complex idea which forces people to take a long hard look at their own ideals and self-morals. The American dream is normally depicted as a straight married couple in which the men works a 9-5 job and the wife stays in the house who takes care of the needs of the family. They have two children normally one boy and one girl along with a dog with a command name such as Rex as they live in a heavily suburban area with a white picket fence.
Dreams can come true if you believe and never give up. The American Dream consists of a national idea that success and prosperity are things to continually strive for. There are many diverse opinions and reasons that people get idea that the American Dream is alive or dead. It is the different stories that are told as examples, that give viewers their opinions. People can twist words in ways that can make the americans hopeful that the american dream is alive, and change it into ways that the american dream is dead.
