Relationships Between Gods in Different Cultures In the work of The Bhagavad-gītā and the Book of Job both the main protagonists of each work, Arjuna and Job, seek guidance and wisdom from their respective gods. Arjuna seeks for guidance from Krishna during the war and Job from his god for why he has been suffering. Each god from the works respond to their person, but each god respond in a different way. In the Bhagavad-gītā Krishna gives Arjuna a straightforward answer. On the other hand, the god in The Book of Job does not. Each work shows how the relationship between the gods and the humans work. In the Indian culture the gods are someone who can show the people the way, but in the Hebrew culture their god test the loyalty of humans. Each character looks to seek advice from their respective gods and find answers. In the work of The Bhagavad-gītā Arjuna is in the middle of a war with his family member and want to seek help from Krishna, his god, for advice. Arjuna stops in the middle of the battlefield and The Bhagavad-gītā states “and there the son of Pritha saw rows of grandfathers and grandsons; sons and fathers, uncles, in-laws; teachers, brothers and companions…Arjuna, the son of Kunti felt for them a great compassion and as well as a great despair” (Bhagavad-gītā 730). Arjuna seeks the god Krishna for guidance to find out what he needs to do and why he is having this problem. Similarly, in The Book of Job, Job is having many problems. His livestock and his family die and he starts to suffer from skin sores. Because of this he reaches out to his god saying “I scream to You and You do not answer, I stand still and You do not observe me.” (Job 209).
