The animal I chose is a jellyfish (or jellies). I used many sources but these were the most helpful. I mainly used https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jellyfish for reproduction and the sizes between birth and adulthood. I used kids.nationalgeographic.com/animals/jellyfish/ for more facts about their one type of cell. I used http://eu.oceana.org/en/feature-about-jellyfish to learn more facts about the reproduction of jellyfish.

First, I’ll talk about the types of cells in a Jellyfish. Fun fact, Jellyfish have stinging structures located in specialized cells called cnidocytes. They use these cells to inject their prey and capture food. But, most jellyfish don’t have specialized cells. Jellyfish aren’t actually fish, they’re plankton. But, like most plankton, they are single celled. They …show more content…

Jellyfish definitely vary in size. Most jellyfish can be half an inch. The smallest jellyfish can a millimeter wide. The largest (Lion’s Mane Jellyfish) can be up to 6 feet wide. Jellyfish don’t grow very large for the most part. They usually stay the same size so, it was very surprising when they discovered an 8 foot jellyfish.

Next, I’ll talk about about the reproduction of a Jellyfish. There are male and female jellyfish. The males and females release eggs and sperm into the water (sexual reproduction). After fertilisation, they develop and become larvae which then, rise new jellyfish or they settle on the sea bottom as polyps. As polyps, through asexual reproduction, jellyfish may develop.

Finally, I’ll talk about how a Jellyfish adapts to its environment. Jellyfish can only survive in saltwater but, there have been cases where few jellyfish have been able to live in freshwater. Most jellyfish have restricted to coastal saltwater lakes. Jellyfish typically stay wherever plankton are located since, plankton are their main diet. Jellyfish can be known to also stay near or at the ocean
