“The Birth-mark” and “a Wall Of Fire Rising” are the stories of presenting the symbolism and figurative language. “The Birth-Mark” is written by Nathaniel Hawthorne and “A Wall Of Fire Rising” is written by Edwidge Danticat. In “The Birth-Mark”, it talks about there is a s couple and the wife is very beautiful. However, there is a birthmark on her face which the husband thinks that is a foreboding. therefore, the husband invents a medicine to eliminate the birthmark. The medicine successfully eliminated the birthmark but wife died right after the birthmark was faded away. “A Wall Of Fire Rising” talks about the main character are looking forward to the freedom. The man character Aylmer in the story is an intellectual run amok. His mind is overpowered by his sense of decency. Aylmer invents a lot of astonishing events. Yet, behind the achievement, just like the narrator mention in the book “His most splendid success were almost invariably failure”(Hawthorne 220). However, Aylmer believes that he can overcome the nature by science and he decide to eliminate the birthmark. The narrator mention that “it was not unusual for the love of science to rival the love of woman in its depth and absorbing energy”(Hawthorne 212). This is the center of the entire conflict. The narrator wants the reader think about the purpose of why Aylmer so obsessed on her birthmark? Is that only like simply obsession on the appearance or this is only his desire of overcoming the nature by science? The conflict emphasize that a excessive ambitions will makes a miserable consequence. “A wall Of Fire Rising” uses the similar way to describe a social phenomenon. The main character Guy is living in a small village and their family is very poor. the gap between rich and poor is becoming bigger and bigger. Guy works very hard for maintaining the livelihood in their family and he dose not want to be like his father who has been poor for entire life. However, the prospect of Guy’s job does not seen to be have any improve. Guy turn to the hot air balloon to get solace. The hot air balloon is the main conflict in the story between reality and dream. The hot air balloon means freedom for Guy. However, freedom is a more complicated topic. overtime when guy is staring at the hot air balloon, he dreams about the hot balloon can take him to the place where he can build his own house. The hot air balloon is actually the tool that helps him to be free. That is why he committed suicide in the end of the story and from the earthly shackle. The conflict in the both
