1. Josef Stalin and the Soviet Union are expertly portrayed in Orwell's novel, 1984, through the character of Big Brother and Oceania. One of the aspects in which the similarities are clear is how both Stalin and Big Brother invoked fear into their people by controlling them through a totalitarian government. The Soviet Union's main media and forms of art were controlled by the government, as is in 1984. Another similarity between Big Brother and Stalin is that history was changed and rewritten to make them seem important and always correct in their stance on politics and society.
He let them know that the Jews would suffer for they did and so he would become a hero among his own. Hitler mostly targeted people that went against the social norms for instance homosexuals, gypsies and more. He banished them from jobs, universities and sis not let them run businesses and he mentally and physically tortured them for not only his own personal reasons but also to create a unity among the Germans so they found a common enemy to turn up
In the concentration camp they were torture. Then Stalin would as arrest people for have opposed ideas for him. After arresting them just like Hitler he would put them in concentrations camps and gave the officers the right to legally torture them. Stalin also created the great purge. He created a very different system to ensure the faithfulness of his people.
Hitler had power over everyone. Adolf Hitler gained his power by promising that he was going to end reparations, create a German empire and by breaking the Versailles Treaty. He also used a lot of propaganda to gain power. He developed a lot of hate towards Jewish people. Members of the Nazi organization were responsible for the Holocaust because they followed Hitler’s will and manipulated people.
Their longing for complete control over every aspect of life of each of their country has led them to become the cruel and brutal leader. They killed myriad of their own people and made others suffer pain. Also, most importantly they both pursued the same idea of totalitarianism and wanted to transform each of their country to totalitarian state. However, they great differed in the way of getting support from the people. Stalin used more violence and murdering people to gain support by creating a fear inside them, whereas Hitler used his fantastic and appealing speech skills to his people to gain support from
Imagine a world where the ability to think for oneself is not allowed. The novel, 1984, and real-time events including Joseph Stalin’s regime show this. There are various similarities between the two. Both gained power through manipulation and sacrificing human lives in order to strive for a totalitarian society. In the novel 1984, due to the manipulation of time and events in Oceania it is difficult to process the beginning of the era of Big Brother.
Adolf Hitler’s government is the Third Reich, which is a form of dictatorship, but in 1984, Big Brother uses totalitarian government. The difference between totalitarian and Third Reich government is that totalitarian is ultimate control including mind Third Reich is life control. Adolf Hitler used propaganda to get the Germans to believe in his vision just like big brother used propaganda to get the people of Oceania to believe in his. In Oceania Big
As propaganda begins to dominate all information, reality gets buried deeper and deeper. Unfortunately, some rulers strive to achieve this control, to the extent of altering the past. Two works exemplify this: 1984 and Life Under Stalin. The former is a dystopian novel by George Orwell, that warns readers of the horrors of a totalitarian state. The latter is a documentary produced by Jo Adendorff, that reveals how Joseph Stalin transformed the Soviet Union under his rule.
Adolf Hitler is an infamous figure who held a desire for power, which led to dictatorship from 1933 to 1939. The oppressive ruling party known as Big Brother was a form of government in 1984 that can be similarly compared to Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party. Adolf Hitler and George Orwell’s Big Brother both show the dangers of totalitarian systems through dehumanization tactics, public speeches, and propaganda.
Hitler made all his children and the peoples children a Nazi army for the following years. He also killed all the Jews, he almost completely marked out the Jewish race. Stalin on the other hand, gain all power for a numerous amount of years. He made his own group known as the Kulaks.
To conclude, concentration camps did horrible thing to people just because Hitler did see them as "desirable", Hitler thought that we should live in a world without Jews. So he sent them to concentration camps. They lived in harsh conditions. They went through harsh labor that killed most of the people. Some people decided to take a stand, but got punished harshly for those actions.
Totalitarianism in 1984 and the Real World The concept of a totalitarian society is a major theme throughout the novel 1984. This theme of totalitarianism can also be applied to the world today. The definition of totalitarianism, a concept used by some political scientists, is a state which holds total authority over the society and seeks to control all aspects of public and private life wherever possible. Totalitarianism can be related between the novel 1984 and current events in the real world. George Orwell incorporated the theme of totalitarianism into his novel 1984 to display the ever changing world around him during the time it was written.
In 1984, George Orwell writes about a dystopian society called Oceania with a totalitarian government. Winston, the main character, is an Outer Party member and works for the government who is under the rule of “Big Brother” and the Inner Party. The Party’s purpose is to rule Oceania with absolutism and have control over its citizens by using propaganda, censorship, and the brainwashing of children. Today, many modern-day countries use these techniques to maintain their power including: North Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Nazi Germany. First, North Korea and Oceania use propaganda to encourage patriotism to make themselves look better to citizens in order to keep a totalitarian rule.
