Comparing The Bundestag And The House Of Commons

Although many people see the bundestag and the House of Commons as similar governmental systems I believe that the Bundestag is more powerful and representative of their electorate compared to the House of Commons in Great Britain. The bundestag has the task of starting legislation, representing the public, and can control the executive unlike the House of Commons which only deals with laws and proposals. While both the bundestag and the House of Commons are elected. The bundestag is distributed with the idea that the voters have two votes in the election. They start a vast majority of the legislation, and even the proposed bills that originate in the bundesrat have to come through the bundestag for approval. This makes it a powerful part of the legislature because they get to control what comes to the floor when and if it will indeed pass and start becoming a law. Another power that the bundestag has is that it controls the executive. It can put forth a positive vote of no confidence where they can replace the chancellor as long as they have another one in line to take over. Although they have tried it twice in the past it has only worked once. This power alone even if they do not use it very often helps to keep the executive in line especially because the chancellor is the one with the real power as the president is more symbolic like the monarch. The other power is to represent the public in the political process. They are the only federal representatives to be elected directly by the public which allows for them to be held accountable for their actions if they do not properly represent their population much like how the representatives in the house in the United States can be easily replaced at the end of their term if they are not truly
