When reading all these Cinderella stories they all seem to become a blur. The ones that stuck out the most was Yeh- Shen and Rodopis. The two stories stick out the most to me because of their similarities and their differences. In this paper I will talk about these two stories and their similarities and differences.
To start off I should tell you about the Egyptian version. The Cinderella of the Egyptian version was Rhodopis. She was kidnapped from Greece,taken to Egypt then sold as a slave. She was very different from her stepsisters and they made fun of her for it. Rhodopis made friends with the animals and ws dancing barefoot so her master bought her red-rose gold slippers and the step sisters became jealous. One day a falcon came down and took one of her slippers and brought it to the Pharaoh, the pharaoh then realized it wasn't a scrap of the sun but a gift and had to find who’s shoe it was. Yeh-Shen’s father had two wives, each of them gave birth to baby girls. Yeh- Shen’s mother died and the stepmother had to watch after her and she hated Yeh-Shen because she was very beautiful and more kind than her own daughters so she mistreated her. She was given the worst jobs and the only friend she had was a fish, but the stepmother killed it and cooked it for dinner. Then an old wise man told her that she needed to go get the fish bones because they were wishes she could use so she did. She used her wishes to go to the festival and wore a beautiful gown of azure blue with a cloak of kingfisher feathers draped around her shoulders. On her feet she wore woven golden threads in a pattern of a scaled fish and the soles were made of solid gold. She went to the festival, she had a great time but at the end of the night she had to leave and accidently left behind a shoe. The king found it and searched all over until he found her and they got married and lived happily ever
