Nurse and Friar Lawrence are to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s death. Written by William Shakespeare, the story of Romeo and Juliet tells a tale of two teenage lovers that are forbidden to be together by their feuding families. After meeting at a party and falling in love, Romeo and Juliet secretly marry with the help of Nurse and Friar Lawrence. Tragically, the young lovers end up dead shortly after their secret marriage. Although Romeo and Juliet physically committed the acts that ended their own lives, there are two people responsible for their misfortune, Friar Lawrence and the nurse. He even confronts himself in front of people, “I will be brief because I'm not going to live long enough to tell a boring story. Romeo, who lies there dead, was the husband of that Juliet. And she, who lies there dead, was that Romeo's faithful wife. I married them; their secret wedding day was the day Tybalt died...” (281-283). He secretly married Romeo and Juliet to each other while knowing they were from feuding families and their love was forbidden. Friar Lawrence also gave Juliet the poison to fake her death and avoid her marriage to Paris (213-217). Friar Lawrence wrote a letter to Romeo telling him that Juliet’s death was faked, but Friar John never delivered the letter. This made Romeo think Juliet was dead and made him freak out and panic. He stopped at the Apothecary soon after he heard the news about Juliet and obtained a poison that would actually kill him. This event made Juliet kill herself when she found out Romeo was dead, all because the letter that Friar Lawrence was meant to send, never got to Romeo. She was Juliet’s only true family that actually cared for her since she was born. The nurse cared more about the bond and friendship between her and Juliet more than being honest (127). An example of this is shown the day after their marriage when everything started to go downhill. Romeo was banished and the nurse already wanted Juliet to marry someone else. She always made things seem bigger than they actually were (157-163). When she was talking about the death of Tybalt to Juliet, she made it seem like Romeo had died and not Tybalt, which made Juliet scared, stressed out and panicked. She also kept the marriage of Romeo and Juliet a secret (121). She kept it a secret before and after the marriage by planning and being at the wedding, and by helping them get a ladder so they could spend the night together.
