Many people debate that meat is ethical because they think it is unreasonable to become vegetarian, while others debate that it is unethical because you can live without meat and eat other foods that don’t have to deal with the killing of animals. Michael Pollan, the journalist, deals with the right of animals and talks about the Polyface farm and the story of how Joel Salatin and his family raise their food animals. In An Animal’s Place, Michael Pollan states “that chickens live like chickens; his cows, like cows; [pig]s, pigs.” He explains that each animal has a lifestyle, eats food in order to survive, and has a job in their life whether it is to breed or take care of the other animals. Another statement from Michael Pollan’s article is “For domesticated species, the good life, if we can call it that, cannot be achieved apart from humans — apart from our farms and, therefore, our meat eating.” Humans are necessary for the life of animals and animals are necessary for humans, although humans can also consume grown vegetables and fruits. Farmers who manufacture the meat try to raise their animals as best as they can, which provides the animal happiness and gives them a good lifestyle.
