The Hero’s Journey Greek Mythology has always been a fascination for every age at this time, where books, movies, spin offs, and translations were made to honor the Greek myths. The origins of these myths that the Greeks made were so they could have an understanding of how the universe works. The oldest tales for example were The Odyssey and The tale of Perseus was told during the times of ancient greece.while the movie The Lightning Thief is a popular spin off from both old tales of ancient greece. To summarize this, Percy goes through a self-growth hero’s journey in order to save his mother, and save the world from the wrath of the gods. Moving on to the next quest, In “The Odyssey”, Odysseus goes through many critical events that he has to overcome by using quick thinking and cleverness to survive. After the victory in Troy, Odysseus takes a 20 year journey from Troy back to Ithaca to reunite with his son Telemachus and his wife Penelope. Throughout the journey he tells of, he faces many obstacles, such as the lotus-eaters, the cyclops, the sirens, Scylla and Charybdis, and the cattle of the sun god. For each one of these trials, Odysseus has to use his brain power to survive each one. Even after all his men perish after they make the sun god angry, Odysseus doesn’t stop and pushes onward. One critical event that defines Odysseus as a hero for his thinking is when he went up against the Cyclops Polyphemus. After Polyphemus trapped Odysseus and his men in the cave to be used as food for later, Odysseus devised a clever plan to trick the Cyclops into opening the cave door so that Odysseus and his men could escape
