Over the years the Inkblot Test and Word Association treatment methods have help therapist and psychologist over the years to understand the human unconscious mind. The Inkblot Test and Word Association are similar and different. Similar being that both are exploring the unconscious mind and different because Word Association uses words and the Inkblot Test uses images. The first treatment method is the Inkblot Test which was created by Hermann Rorschach. The test is conducted with a series of pictures (inkblots)followed the patient writing down what it the image represents. Therapists use the inkblots to see what's happening in the unconscious by looking at meaningless inkblots. Every patient interprets the inkblots in different ways that represent parts of their personality and internal mechanisms. If the patient sees positive images like butterflies and not negative images like the devil they are considered healthy patients. This test is used to help determine mental health problems and emotional problems. The use of this method has declined over the years because many people have said that it is unreliable.
