In this essay I argue that the Latino characters in Breaking Bad, Modern Family, and Dora the Explorer, all represent how Latino/as are portrayed as dangerous criminals with erratic behaviors, aggressive, and use intimidating acts of violence to portray their characters with the imagery of a violent criminal gang like persona. There is also the imagery of the Latina character as a very promiscuous, sexy, and a loud spoken full of attitude woman which is also very commonly recognized. Even at the level of children cartoons which generalizes characteristics of stereotypical Latino/as culture, customs, traditions, and visual representation to be viewed by the children viewers as all the same. She was born in Barranquilla, Colombia. In Season 6 episode 8, “three turkeys”, the Dunphy, Pritchett, and Tucker family gathers for their big family dinner on Thanksgiving. Jay and Gloria have other plans this year. They leave Manny at Phil and Claire’s house and stage a fake video of themselves in Colombia where they are visiting Gloria’s family in order to escape the usual holiday chaos. Gloria is another supporting role actress in which she plays the sexy, passionate and most of the time the scandalous Colombian woman married to an American man who is way older and is wealthy. She uses the stereotypical very loud, temperamental, speaks broken English “Spanglish”, and is the typical sex symbolized Latina character who marries the white man for money. In the opening scene you can hear Gloria over the laptop video camera as very loud, full of attitude, and using very broken English with a thick accent. The series is centered around a Latina girl who loves to embark on adventures that relate to some educational activity she wants her viewers to take part in. She is always accompanied by a talking backpack and her an anthropomorphic monkey named, “Boots”. The episode, “Baby Winky Comes Home”, Dora is wearing her typical plain pink shirt, she has a very tan skin tone, plain orange shorts, yellow lacey socks, white tennis shoes, and her backpack. She embarks on her adventure to bring back Baby Winky to his parents with her friend Boots the monkey. During the journey they pass many tropical plant types like the aloe plant, palm trees, and many tropical flower bushes. They first reach a farmer’s Market with a merchant wearing very typical farmers clothing with a wide brimmed hat, a very large mustache, a bandana, and a pair of overalls. Furthermore, Baby Winky becomes cold and asks for a striped blanket that has weaved fringes on the sides of the blanket. Which yields a very Latino like cultural appearance. After leaving Dora begins to sing her “Come on, Vaminos” in Spanglish.
