“The mind is everything. What you think you become.”( Buddha) . Edgar Allen Poe was known for writing stories that you could put your own interpretation on. Hs character choices were ones that had you thinking that he was a trouble man. Shirley Jackson was known for writing stories like Charles , The Lottery, and The Haunting of Hill House to name a few. Her stories had amazing plot twist. Edgar’s story Tell Tale Heart and Shirley’s Charles have very similar plots. They both talk about a person’s mind can make them see things. Also, what actions were caused from them seeing this image. Lastley, what were the consequences from the actions. The mind is a powerful thing. What their minds made the see? In the story of Tell Tale Heart the narrator starts by saying “-I undid it just so much that a single thin ray fell upon the vulture eye. And this I did for seven long nights --every night just at midnight --but I found the eye always closed; and so it was impossible to do the work; for it was not the old man who vexed me, but his Evil Eye. Laurie came home from school and had lunch with his family. His asked what happened at school and he said “The teacher spanked a boy, though,” Laurie said, addressing his bread and butter. “For being fresh,” he added, with his mouth full”.(Jackson9).
