“It takes a second to make a choice but that second can lead to a consequence that last for your lifetime.” In this essay I’m gonna be telling you about the theme, characterization, and tone of the stories “The Monkey’s Paw” and “The Old Grandfather.” I learned from the two stories that each choice you make could come with a brutal consequence.

The theme in each text is all choices have consequences. In the Monkey’s Paw Mr. White makes a choice to take the paw out of the firing causing it not to burn. In the text Mr. White says “if you don’t want the paw than give it to us.” This means Mr. White said he would take the paw off of the old soldier 's hands and use the wishes. In the text it says “from now on you will be eating away from the table.” The consequence of her choice is the son said when they get old he will treat them the same way. The text says “When she opened the door no one was outside, instead all there was, was darkness.” The consequence of this choice is the wife would be sad forever since she doesn 't have her son anymore. In “The Old Grandfather” the Dad makes a choice to make the grandfather eat out of a wooden bowl well sitting in a corner during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A quote from the text states “from now on he will eat in a corner with a wooden bowl.” This taught me you should treat others how you want to be
