In The Crucible, Arthur Miller shows that the troubles these people were having during 1692, the people who were suspected and or accused sentenced to death. In the end, these events resulted in some families and loved ones lost, but Elizabeth and John went through troubled times,that had affected more…. their marriage. Initially, they seemed intense with each other and didn't seem like the normal couple. They always seemed so distant from each other.in johns attempt to make things better it seemed like to him things were just getting worse. As he states “ I mean to please you Elizabeth” and with a slight sigh of disappointment she responds “ I know it John” ( Miller 50). At this point Elizabeth knows about John and Abigail. Elizabeth has been accused of witchcraft and john is fighting to get her out of jail. Abigail has accused Elizabeth for witchcraft and John didn’t like it so he went to the court. He tells the court what he had done with abigail and that he knew it was wrong and he is trying to make it right. As he quotes “ I want my life...you’ll confess yourself...i will have my life” ( Miller 137). He is trying to show that what he did was a mistake and he wants to make everything right, and he is trying his best to bring their marriage
