Comparing The University Of Chicago Vs The Ohio State University

Nike or Adidas? Pizza or Chinese? Small, medium or large? Life is full of questions and choices that need to be made. Something like choosing what to eat for dinner may seem like a big deal at the moment, but it will not have an everlasting effect on one’s life. Choosing which car to buy may seem important, but when compared to picking a major, a college, or a career it is miniscule. Currently I am facing the dilemma of choosing the university at which I want to spend the next four years of my life. While many options have been presented to me, I have narrowed it to just two choices. The Ohio State University sits on 1,592 acres on the Columbus campus and 58,663 students (“OSU Statistical Summary”). There is an obvious difference between the sizes of the two campuses, and a smaller campus makes more overall sense for me. I like building interpersonal relationships, and I feel that this is much more possible on a smaller campus. Having a lower acreage also decreases my anxiety over being late to class, which is something that has become a real fear of mine. The Ohio State University provides a safer setting in comparison to the University of Chicago, where crime rate is much higher. While Columbus is a much smaller city than Chicago there is still crime near the campus. When I visited these campuses I surprisingly felt safer on the Chicago campus. I believe this was because of the heavy police presence and the availability of emergency boxes. The Ohio State University does offer the “big city” feel by offering a large number of restaurants, theaters, concerts, and public transportation. However there is no denying that Chicago provides an almost movie like, whimsical, adventure filled campus. Museums and theaters are present nearly everywhere in Chicago and the school offers discounts on admission. Public transportation is offered at both campuses, something that is very important to me because I will not have a car on
